Located 90km far from Sapa Town, Bac Ha Market is well-known for traverlers by its most colorful market of the hill tribes of Northwest Viet Nam and as one of ten attractive weekly markets in Southeast Asia according to Sri Lanka’s Serendis magazine.
Every Sunday, the market attracts at least 8 ethnic groups: Black Hmong, White Hmong, Flower Hmong, Tay, Dzay, Fula, Dzao, and Kinh. They are gather all together the locals for bartering and stocking up on goods. It is not considerd as only a market but also a chance for them to meet, to talk, and to gossip.
Visitors can find a surprising feel of handmade embroidered items, trying thắng cố ( mixture of all parts of horse), mèn mén, five-colour sticky rice, phở chua (taste sour) and Hmong corn wine, which are popular foods and drinks of the ethnic minority people in the area.
